Section 17 of 17 in Bo — 16 segments
Segment 1
AND IT SHALL BE FOR A TOKEN UPON THINE HAND AND FOR FRONTLETS BETWEEN THINE EYES. This commandment has also another significance besides being a Divine ordinance, for the phylacteries are signs and means of sanctification, symbols of the beauty of the supernal colours.
Segment 2
And it is written, “For Israel is a youth, and I loved him” (Hos. 11, 1) — the lesser Israel. “Hear, O Israel” — Ancient Israel: the beauty of the colours, above and below. Joseph ascended and was crowned with two colours: at first “Youth”, and at the end Zaddik. How fair are the colours in him to look upon! And this is the mystery of “And Joseph was of beautiful form and fair to look upon” (Gen. 39, 6) — beautiful on two sides, in two grades, in two colours, above and below.
Segment 3
It is written: “And thou shalt do that what is right and good.” “Right” here indicates the phylactery of the hand, which has to be supplemented by and joined with the phylactery of the forehead.
