Section 7 of 8 in Bamidbar — 5 segments

Segment 1

R. Eleazar then asked his father, R. Simeon, for a mnemonic suggestive of this method of effecting unification. In reply his father mentioned the manner in which the priest goes round the altar, regarding which the Mishnah-Code says: “And [the priest] came to the south-eastern, then to the north-eastern, the north-western, and the south-western horn”. R. Eleazar then asked: ‘How could one come to the south before taking upon oneself the yoke of the Kingdom of Heaven?’

Segment 2

R. Simeon, in reply, said: ‘Just so. It says [literally] “and he came to the horn of south-east”, that is, first to the horn, symbolic of the yoke of the Kingdom of Heaven, and then to the south-east, symbolic of the Tree of Life….

Segment 3

And the east is bound to the north — as it says, “and with Your treasure You fill their belly” (Ps. 17, 14) — because this one completes and fills the streams and the springs; and therefore, north-east. These are Father and Mother, who are never separated, and this we have explained. And that which was said, “north,” is the supernal hidden one; and from her side the north issues, and judgements are roused from her side, although she is mercy and joy. And this we have explained. And when she goes forth, the north goes forth with her, for it is comprised and bound in the south.
