Segment 1א׳

רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר הֲוָה אָזִיל לְמֵחמֵי לְרִבִּי יוֹסֵי חָמוּי, רִבִּי אַבָּא וְחַבְרוֹי אַזְלוּ עִמֵּיהּ. פָּתַח רִבִּי אֶלְעָזָר וְאָמַר, (תהילים ה׳:ד׳) יְיָ בֹּקֶר תִּשְׁמַע קוֹלִי וְגוֹ'. יְיָ בֹּקֶר מַאי בֹּקֶר. אֶלָּא דָּא בֹּקֶר דְּאַבְרָהָם, דְּאִתְּעַר בְּעָלְמָא. דִּכְתִּיב, (בראשית כ״ב:ג׳) וַיַּשְׁכֵּם אַבְרָהָם בַּבֹּקֶר. דְּהָא כַּד אָתֵי צַפְרָא, הַהוּא בֹּקֶר אִתְּעַר בְּעָלְמָא, וְהוּא עִידָּן רַעֲוָא לְכֹלָּא, וּלְמֶעְבַּד טִיבוּ לְכָל עָלְמָא, לְזַכָּאִין וּלְחַיָיבִין. וּכְדֵין עִידָּן צְלוֹתָא הוּא, לִמְצְלֵי קַמֵּי מַלְכָּא קַדִּישָׁא.

R. Eleazar discoursed on the verse: “O Lord, in the morning shalt thou hear my voice”, etc. (Ps. 5, 4). ‘When daylight comes’, he said, ‘that “Morning” of Abraham awakes, and then is a time of grace for all, both virtuous and wicked, and therefore it is the hour to offer prayer to the Holy King

Segment 2ב׳

וְעַל דָּא, בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּאָתֵי צַפְרָא, כָּל אִינּוּן אֲסִירֵי מַלְכָּא, אַשְׁכָּחוּ נַיְיחָא, עִידָּן צְלוֹתָא אִיהוּ עָלַיְיהוּ. וְכָּל שֶׁכֵּן אִינּוּן דְּתַיְיבִין בְּתִיּוּבְתָּא, וּבָעָאן בָּעוּתְהוֹן לְקַמֵּי מַלְכָּא קַדִּישָׁא. בְּגִין, דְּהַאִי שַׁעֲתָא, חַד מְמָנָא נָפִיק לִסְטַר דָּרוֹם, וּרְפָאֵל שְׁמֵיהּ, וְכָל זִינֵי אֲסְוְותָּא בִּידוֹי. וּמִסְטַר דָּרוֹם, נָפַק חַד רוּחָא, וּמַטִי לְגַבֵּי הֲהוּא מְמָנָא, דִּמְמָנָא עַל אַסְוָותָא. וְכַד מָטֵי צְלוֹתָא לְקַמֵּי קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, פָּקִיד לְבֵי דִּינָא דִּילֵיהּ, דְּלָא יִפְתְּחוּן בְּדִינָא, בְּגִין דְּחַיִּים בִּידָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, וְלָא בִּידֵיהוֹן.

since all the prisoners of the King then have respite. And most of all is it the time for those who repent to offer their prayer before the Holy King, because at that hour a certain Chieftain named Raphael goes forth to the side of the South having all manner of healing medicines in his hand, and from the side of the South comes forth a certain spirit which meets that keeper of the medicines. When the prayer reaches the Holy One, blessed be He, He enjoins His court not to hear accusations, because life is in His hand and not in theirs.

Segment 3ג׳

וּמִגּוֹ דְּאִיהוּ עִידָּן רַעֲוָא, בָּעָא קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא זְכוּתָא דְּהַהוּא בַּר נָשׁ, אִי יִשְׁתְּכַּח בִּצְלוֹתָא, (יאות, ואי לא חשיב ליה בשוגג) אוֹ דְּאִיהוּ מָארֵיהּ דְּתִיוּבְתָּא, חָס עָלֵיהּ. (קצ"ז ע"ב) בְּהַהִיא שַׁעֲתָא קַל צִפָּרִין דִּמְקַנְנָן אִשְׁתְּמָעוּ, דִּכְתִּיב, (תהילים ק״ד:י״ז) אֲשֶׁר שָׁם צִפֳּרִים יְקַנֵּנוּ. וְאִינּוּן צִפֳּרִין אוֹדָאן וּמְשַׁבְּחָן לְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא. וְהַהוּא אַיֶּלֶת הַשַּׁחַר אִתְּעַר בְּעָלְמָא וְאָמַר, (תהילים ל״א:כ׳) מָה רַב טוּבְךָ אֲשֶׁר צָפַנְתָּ לִּירֵאֶיךָ וְגוֹ'. כְּדֵין הַהוּא מְמָנָא נָפִיק, וְעָבִיד כָּל מַה דְּאִתְפְּקַד.

And since it is a time of grace, God desires to justify that man if he is engaged in prayer or repentance. At that time the twittering of birds is heard praising and lauding the Holy One, blessed be He, and the Hind of the morning awakes and says: “How great is thy goodness which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee” (Ps. 31, 19). Then that emissary goes forth and does all that he was enjoined.
