Section 1 of 18 in Addenda, Volume III — 17 segments
Segment 1
R. Judah and R. Isaac were going along the road. As they were going they came upon a certain boy who was walking, and he was weary. He said to them: I am weary, for I have not eaten today. They brought out bread and gave it to him. A miracle happened for them, and they found a thin spring of water (a variant reads: beneath a tree) beneath them, and they drank of it and sat down.
Segment 2
That boy began and said: “And He called to Moses” (Lev. 1, 1). Here there is a small aleph. Why? Because this calling was not in completeness. What is the reason? Because it was only in the tabernacle and in another land; for completeness is not found except in the Holy Land.
Segment 3
Furthermore, here is the Shekinah, there is the completeness of male and female. “Adam, Seth, Enosh” (I Chron. 1, 1): Adam is the completeness of male and female; here is the female. Furthermore, the end of the verse: “And the Lord spoke to him out of the tent of meeting, saying.” Therefore a small aleph.
