Segment 1
R. Simeon said: ‘It is written: “And it shall come to pass that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another”, etc. (Isa. 66, 23). Why is “new moon” put side by side with “Sabbath”? Because both are of one grade, being the time when one is joined to the other. On Sabbath there is joy and an additional soul, because the Ancient One reveals Himself and the wedlock is prepared.

Happy the generation in which R. Simeon lived! To it the words apply, “Happy art thou O land, when thy king is a free man”. This is R. Simeon, who holds his head erect to expound doctrine and fears not, like a free man who says what he wants to say without fear.’
