Section 11 of 75 in Achrei Mot — 15 segments
Segment 1
R. Simeon then discoursed on the verse: “Behold it is the litter of Solomon, threescore mighty men are round about it”, etc. (S.S. 3, 7). He said: ‘The “litter” here is the throne of glory of the King, Solomon, the “king to whom all peace belongs”. Threescore mighty men are round about it, clinging to its sides as emissaries from stern judgement; they are called the sixty rods of fire wherewith that Youth is girt.
Segment 2
On its right hand is a flashing sword, on its left hand coals of fire with seventy thousand consuming flames. Those threescore are armed with deadly weapons from the armoury of the supernal Might of the Holy One, blessed be He.
Segment 3
They all “handle the sword and are expert in war”: they are ever ready to execute judgement and are called the “lords of wailing and howling”.
