Se’if 1א׳

הַשּׁוֹחֵט אֶת הַבְּכוֹר שֶׁלֹּא עַל פִּי חָכָם, אֲפִלּוּ הֶרְאָהוּ לְחָכָם אַחַר כָּךְ וּמָצָא בּוֹ מוּם, אָסוּר. וְהוּא הַדִּין בַּזְּמַן הַזֶּה, אִם לֹא הֶרְאָהוּ לִשְׁלֹשָׁה בְּנֵי הַכְּנֶסֶת.

One who slaughters the firstborn not on the word of a sage — even if he showed it to a sage afterwards and he found a blemish in it — it is forbidden. And the same applies in our time, if he did not show it to three members of the synagogue.

Se’if 2ב׳

הַשּׁוֹחֵט הַבְּכוֹר שֶׁלֹּא עַל פִּי מֻמְחֶה, וּמְכָרוֹ וַאֲכָלוּהוּ, מַחֲזִיר לָהֶם הַדָּמִים; לֹא אֲכָלוּהוּ, יִקָּבֵר וְיַחֲזִיר לָהֶם הַדָּמִים.

One who slaughtered the firstborn not on the word of an expert, and sold it and they ate it, returns the money to them; if they did not eat it, it is buried and he returns the money to them.

Se’if 3ג׳

מִי שֶׁאֵינוֹ מֻמְחֶה, וְרָאָה אֶת הַבְּכוֹר, וְנִשְׁחַט עַל פִּיו, יִקָּבֵר וִישַׁלֵּם מִבֵּיתוֹ. וְכַמָּה יְשַׁלֵּם, אִם הוּא בְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל מְשַׁלֵּם בְּגַסָה חֲצִי דָּמָיו, וּבְדַקָּה רְבִיעַ דָּמָיו; וּבְחוּץ לָאָרֶץ, בֵּין בְּדַקָּה בֵּין בְּגַסָה חֲצִי דָּמָיו. וְהָאִדָּנָא, שֶׁאַף בְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֵין רֹב שָׂדוֹת שֶׁל יִשְׂרָאֵל, מֻתָּר לְגַדֵּל בְּהֵמָה דַּקָּה אֲפִלּוּ בְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל, הִלְכָּךְ אֲפִלּוּ בְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל אַף בְּדַקָּה מִשַּׁלֵּם חֲצִי דָּמִים.

One who is not an expert and inspected the firstborn, and it was slaughtered on his word — it is buried, and he pays out of his own house. And how much does he pay? If it is in the Land of Israel, he pays for a large animal half its value, and for a small one a quarter of its value; and outside the Land, whether for a small one or a large one, half its value. And nowadays, since even in the Land of Israel most of the fields do not belong to Israelites, it is permitted to raise small animals even in the Land of Israel; therefore even in the Land of Israel, even for a small one, he pays half the value.
