A winepress of stone that an idolater (oved kokhavim — the standing term for a gentile) pitched, and he put wine into it at the time of the pitching; or that an Israelite pitched and put wine into it, and the idolater touched it while there was still liquid enough to moisten upon it — it requires wiping dry. And if the idolater trod in it when it was pitched, wiping dry does not suffice for it; rather he shall pare off the pitch and afterwards wipe it dry, or pouring without paring, or he shall age it twelve months. And one of wood: if an idolater pitched it and put wine into it at the time of the pitching, even though he did not tread in it; or where he pitched it and trod in it afterwards; or where an Israelite pitched it and put wine into it, and the idolater touched it while there was still liquid enough to moisten upon it — one law applies to them, that it requires paring and wiping dry, or pouring without paring. And if there is tow of flax between one board and another, or worn-out rags, wiping dry does not suffice for it; rather it requires filling and pouring, or purging. And one of earthenware: if the idolater pitched it and put wine into it at the time of the pitching, even though he did not tread in it; or where an Israelite pitched it and put wine into it, and the idolater touched it while there was still liquid enough to moisten upon it — it is not made permitted by paring and wiping dry, but by filling and pouring without paring. And if the idolater pitched it and trod in it, it requires paring and filling and pouring, or purging without paring, or ageing for twelve months, or to heat it in a kiln until the pitch softens. And all this is in one that is pitched; but if it is not pitched there is ground to distinguish, that if the beginning of its use was by an idolater it requires wiping dry, and in one of earthenware, pouring, if he trod in it (Tur). And if the beginning of its use was by an Israelite, rinsing suffices for it if it is of wood or of stone; but if it is of earthenware it requires wiping dry.
Se’if 2ב׳
A winepress built of bricks, or of lime and gypsum (that is, a material whiter than lime, vaiso in the vernacular) — its law is as that of one of earthenware.
Se’if 3ג׳
The winepress and its vessels that require wiping dry are made permitted by purging by way of pouring, in that he pours over them from a first vessel; and this purging shall be no less than wiping dry.
