A prophet in David's court who told him the parable of the poor man's ewe lamb to confront him over Bat Sheva and Uriah, and who delivered God's promise of an everlasting dynasty to David. He later helped secure Shlomo's succession to the throne (2 Samuel 7, 12; 1 Kings 1). This spelling is also the ordinary Hebrew verb “he gave,” one of the most common words in the Tanakh, so the great majority of the count is that verb, not the prophet.
