Halacha 1
A Hebrew bondman whom the court sold, and one who sells himself, is acquired by money, and by money's worth, and by a document. How by a document? He writes for him upon paper or upon a shard, "I am hereby sold to you," "I am hereby acquired to you," and gives him the document.
Halacha 2
If the court sold him, he serves six years from the day of his sale, and at the beginning of his seventh year he goes out a free man. And if the year of release fell within the six, he serves in it. But if the jubilee year fell upon him, even if he was sold one year before the jubilee, he goes out to freedom, as it is said (Leviticus 25:40), "until the year of jubilee he shall serve with you," and (Leviticus 25:13), "in this year of jubilee," and so forth.
Halacha 3
One who sells himself may sell himself for more than six. If he sold himself for ten years or for twenty years and the jubilee fell upon him, even after one year, he goes out at the jubilee, as it is said (Leviticus 25:40), "until the year of jubilee he shall serve with you."
