Sabbath 30
Chapter 30 of 30 in Sabbath — 15 halachot
Halacha 1
Four things were said concerning the Sabbath: two from the Torah, and two from the words of the Scribes, and these are set out explicitly by the prophets. Those in the Torah are (Exodus 20:8) "Remember" and (Deuteronomy 5:12) "Keep"; and those set out explicitly by the prophets are honour and delight, as it is said (Isaiah 58:13), "and you shall call the Sabbath a delight, and the holy day of the Lord honourable."
Halacha 2
What is honour? This is what the Sages said: that it is a commandment upon a man to wash his face, his hands and his feet in hot water on the eve of the Sabbath, for the honour of the Sabbath, and to wrap himself in tzitzit and to sit in gravity, waiting to receive the face of the Sabbath as one who goes out to meet the king. And the early Sages would gather their disciples on the eve of the Sabbath and wrap themselves and say, "Come and let us go out to meet the Sabbath, the king."
Halacha 3
We honor the Sabbath by wearing clean clothes. One must not wear weekday apparel on the Sabbath. But if he does not have [an additional set of clothing] to change, he should lower his garment, so that his [style of] dress is not like that of the week. And Ezra ordained that the people should wash their clothes on Thursday, on account of the honor of the [coming] Shabbat.
