Prayer and the Priestly Blessing 6
Chapter 6 of 15 in Prayer and the Priestly Blessing — 10 halachot
Halacha 1
It is forbidden for a man to pass behind a synagogue at the time when the congregation is praying, unless he was carrying a burden, or unless the synagogue had two entrances on two sides — for one who sees him says, "Perhaps he is going to enter by the other entrance"; and likewise if there were two synagogues in the city, one who sees him will say, "Perhaps he is going to the synagogue in which he is accustomed to pray." And if he has tefillin on his head he is permitted to pass, even though none of all these is present, for the tefillin testify concerning him that he pursues the commandments and is not of those who neglect prayer.
Halacha 2
One who prays with the congregation should not prolong his prayer unduly; but by himself the choice is in his hand. And if he comes to say after his prayer even the whole order of the confession of the Day of Atonement, he may say it. And likewise, if he wished to add in each and every one of the middle blessings something of the character of that blessing, he may add.
Halacha 3
How so? If he had a sick person, he asks mercy for him in the blessing of the sick, according to the fluency of his tongue. If he needed sustenance, he adds supplication and petition in the blessing of the years. And in this way in each and every one of them. And if he wished to ask for all his needs in "who hears prayer," he may ask; but he shall not ask, neither in the first three nor in the last three.
