Halacha 1

The bottoms of large jars, and the bottoms of vessel-floors and of vessels, and their side-walls from behind, do not save by a tightly sealed cover in the tent of a corpse. If he trimmed them and smoothed them and made them into vessels, they save by a tightly sealed cover — for nothing saves by a tightly sealed cover except vessels.

Halacha 2

An earthenware vessel into which he put clay up to half of it — he has not thereby annulled it. And if he sank the vessels within it, it saves.

Halacha 3

An earthenware vessel saves by a tightly sealed cover until it is pierced with a hole that lets a pomegranate pass; and in a large vessel, until the greater part of it has been broken away. How so? A large vessel half of which was broken away, and he closed it with a tightly sealed cover and stopped up the place of the breach with a tightly sealed cover — this saves, even though it is not reckoned a vessel with respect to impurity. But a vessel closed with a tightly sealed cover that was pierced or cracked, and he did not stop up the hole, has become impure and does not save. And how large must the hole be? If it was a vessel made for foods, its measure is a hole that lets olives pass; if it was made for liquid, its measure is a hole that lets liquid in; and one made for this and for that — they cast it toward the stringent side. And once it is pierced with a hole that lets liquid in, it does not save until he stops up the hole or until he reduces it.
