יוסי בן יועזר Yose ben Yoezer of Tzereda
Zugot · 1st Pair (c. 170 BCE – 10 CE) — named 22 times across 8 tractates of the Bavli.
Yose ben Yoezer of Tzereda, of the first of the five Pairs, stood at the head of the chain of transmission after the Men of the Great Assembly, together with Yose ben Yochanan of Jerusalem. He was a priest, and the tradition calls him the pious one among the priesthood. His word in Avot is that a man's house should be a meeting place for the sages, that he should sit in the dust at their feet and drink in their words with thirst.
He is named a little over twenty times across eight tractates, heaviest in Temurah and Pesachim, and the disputes recorded in his name are the first in the Mishnah between two named authorities.
Of the first pair; nasi.
