Zugot · 2nd Pair (c. 170 BCE – 10 CE) — named 3 times across 2 tractates of the Bavli.

Zugot · 2nd Pair×3 named in the Bavli2 tractates

Yehoshua ben Perachya belongs to the second of the five Pairs, serving with Nitai of Arbel in the generations before Hillel and Shammai.

His is the teaching that a man should make himself a teacher, acquire for himself a friend, and judge every man on the scale of merit — three sentences that have carried further than almost anything else preserved from the Pairs. He is named three times in this corpus, twice in Sotah and once in Chagigah.

Of the second pair.
