The Sages of the Talmud

רב יוסף בריה דרבא Rav Yosef son of Rava

Amora of Babylonia · 6th generation (c. 375–425 CE) — named 11 times across 8 tractates of the Bavli.

Amora of Babylonia · 6th generation×11 named in the Bavli8 tractates2 as a patronymic

Rav Yosef son of Rava, of the sixth Babylonian generation, was a son of Rava and a student of Rav Papa and of Rav Ashi — a line that runs through the three greatest names of the later Babylonian academies.

He is named some eleven times across eight tractates, two of those inside another's patronymic, heaviest in Ketubot. The Talmud brings him among the questioners of Rav Ashi's academy rather than as an authority in his own right.

Son of Rava.
