Rav Yehuda bar Sheila, of the third Babylonian generation, is named eight times, gathered in Shabbat and Yevamot, and in four of those places he reports a teaching in another sage's name — Rav Assi's most often, and Rav Ashi's once.

He is cited in the company of Rabbi Yochanan's rulings and Rabbi Elazar's. The roster marks the entry for review; beyond that circle, the reference tradition holds little about him that can be stated firmly.

Rarely cited.
