Rav Tovi bar Matna, of the fourth Babylonian generation, is named five times, three of them in Bava Batra and the rest in Rosh Hashana and Temurah; once he reports a teaching in Rabbi Yoshiya's name.

His patronymic keeps him apart in this index from the plain Rav Tovi and from Rav Tovi bar Kisna, each of whom has a separate entry. The roster marks this one for review, and beyond the generation and those citations the reference tradition holds little that can be stated firmly.
