רב שמואל בר יצחק Rav Shmuel bar Yitzchak
Amora of the Land of Israel · 3rd generation (c. 290–320 CE) — named 25 times across 18 tractates of the Bavli.
Rav Shmuel bar Yitzchak, of the third amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, was Babylonian-born and went up to the land. The Bavli writes him with both titles, רב and רבי.
He is named some twenty-five times across eighteen tractates — a wide, thin spread, with no tractate carrying more than three — and two of his citations give a teaching in Rav's name. The roster keeps this form apart from the fuller רב שמואל בר רב יצחק, which is where the tradition's stories about the name attach.
Of Eretz Yisrael, Babylonian-born.
