רב מתנה Rav Mattana
Amora of Babylonia · 2nd generation (c. 250–290 CE) — named 122 times across 29 tractates of the Bavli.
Rav Mattana, of the second Babylonian generation, was a student of Rav and of Shmuel, and is quoted in their names some eighteen times in this corpus and cited by others a dozen.
He is named some hundred and twenty times across twenty-nine tractates, heaviest in Chullin and Nazir. He belongs to the generation whose work was to fix and transmit exactly what the first Babylonian masters had said, and the Gemara uses his reports for that purpose — as testimony to the wording of a ruling as much as to its substance.
