Rav Mari, of the fifth Babylonian generation, is cited some eighty times across twenty-seven tractates, most often in Bava Batra, Bava Metzia and Zevachim.

More than one sage bears the name — the Bavli knows a Rav Mari son of Rachel and a Rav Mari son of Rav Kahana among others — and the unqualified form does not separate them; this entry is marked for review. Beyond the generation and the company he keeps, in Rava's and Rav Zvid's circles, the reference tradition holds little that can be stated firmly of him.

More than one sage of the name.
