The Sages of the Talmud

רב חנינא בר שלמיא Rav Chanina bar Shlemya

Amora of Babylonia · 4th generation (c. 320–350 CE) — named 4 times across 4 tractates of the Bavli.

Amora of Babylonia · 4th generation×4 named in the Bavli4 tractates

Rav Chanina bar Shlemya was a student of Rav, and it is as Rav's tradent that the Bavli has occasion to cite him: Rav's name stands beside his more often than anyone else's.

He is named four times, one apiece in Beitzah, Chullin, Niddah and Shabbat. Beyond that office and his teacher's house, the reference tradition holds little about him that can be stated firmly, and the short entry is the honest one.

Cites Rav.
