The Sages of the Talmud

רב חנא בר חנילאי Rav Chana bar Chanilai

Amora of Babylonia · 3rd generation (c. 290–320 CE) — named 5 times across 3 tractates of the Bavli.

Amora of Babylonia · 3rd generation×5 named in the Bavli3 tractates

Rav Chana bar Chanilai, of the third Babylonian generation, was a student of Rav Huna, and he is named beside his teacher more than beside anyone else. He is cited five times — three in Beitzah, and once each in Berachot and Megillah.

Beyond his generation and his teacher's house, the reference tradition holds little about him that can be stated firmly, and this short account is the honest one.

Of Rav Huna's students.
