אבימי Avimi
Amora of Babylonia · 3rd generation (c. 290–320 CE) — named 63 times across 22 tractates of the Bavli.
Avimi, of the third Babylonian generation, is cited some sixty times across twenty-two tractates and is quoted by other sages some sixteen times, chiefly within Rav Chisda's circle.
The name is borne by more than one sage — the Bavli also knows an Avimi son of Rabbi Abbahu — and the unqualified form does not distinguish them, so the entry is marked for review. Beyond the setting, the reference tradition holds little about him that can be stated firmly.
Cited in Rav Chisda's circle.
