רבי אסי Rabbi Assi
Amora of the Land of Israel · 3rd generation (c. 290–320 CE) — named 198 times across 30 tractates of the Bavli.
Rabbi Assi, of the third amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, was a student of Rabbi Yochanan and the constant pair of Rabbi Ami: the two sat together in judgment at Tiberias and are cited together throughout the Bavli. He is quoted in others' names some fifty times.
He is not the Babylonian Rav Assi of the first generation, and in this corpus only the title separates them. He is named some two hundred times across thirty tractates, heaviest in Chullin and Gittin.
Rabbi Ami's constant pair; not the Babylonian רב אסי.
