רב ענן Rav Anan
Amora of Babylonia · 2nd generation (c. 250–290 CE) — named 55 times across 18 tractates of the Bavli.
Rav Anan, of the second Babylonian generation, was a student of Shmuel and appears chiefly in the civil law: a fifth of his mentions are in Ketubot, and most of the rest in Bava Batra, Chullin and Eruvin.
The tradition associates him with Elijah the prophet, who is said to have studied with him and to have withdrawn after Rav Anan accepted what looked like a favour from a litigant, returning only after he had taken the matter to heart. He is quoted in others' names some ten times, mostly Shmuel's, and is named some fifty-five times.
