Amora of Babylonia · 4th generation×42 named in the Bavli17 tractates

Rav Adda bar Matna, of the fourth Babylonian generation, was a student of Rabbah and belongs afterwards to Rava's circle. The Bavli usually brings him raising a difficulty against the ruling under discussion rather than laying down a position of his own.

He is named some forty times across seventeen tractates, spread thinly rather than concentrated in any one of them, and the names he stands beside most often are Rava's and Abaye's.

Of Rabbah's students.
