The Sages of the Talmud

רב אדא בר אבא Rav Adda bar Abba

Amora of Babylonia · 4th generation (c. 320–350 CE) — named 13 times across 7 tractates of the Bavli.

Amora of Babylonia · 4th generation×13 named in the Bavli7 tractates

Rav Adda bar Abba, of the fourth Babylonian generation, belonged to Rava's circle. His presence in the Talmud is unusually concentrated: seven of his thirteen mentions are in Bava Batra, where the account of his death stands and where several of the sages of Pumbedita are recorded each taking the responsibility for it on himself — a passage the tradition keeps for what it says about the weight of a scholar's words.

He appears in seven tractates in all, and Rava and Rav Nachman bar Yitzchak are the names he stands beside most.

Of Rava's circle.
