Rav Abba, of the third Babylonian generation, bears the Babylonian form of a name that in Eretz Yisrael belongs to Rabbi Abba; in this corpus only the title separates the two, and the roster keeps them as separate entries and marks this one for review.

He is named eight times across seven tractates, spread thinly, in the company of Rav and Abaye, and twice he reports a teaching in Rav Huna's name. Beyond the generation and that circle, the reference tradition holds little about him that can be stated firmly.
