The Sages of the Talmud

רבי יודן Rabbi Yudan

Amora of the Land of Israel · 4th generation (c. 320–350 CE) — named 7 times across 2 tractates of the Bavli.

Amora of the Land of Israel · 4th generation×7 named in the Bavli2 tractates

Rabbi Yudan, of the fourth amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, belongs to the later generations of the Eretz-Yisrael academies, whose teaching is preserved chiefly in the Yerushalmi. Six of his seven mentions in this corpus fall in Shekalim, whose Gemara in the printed Shas is the Yerushalmi's rather than the Bavli's, and the seventh in Bechorot.

That distribution is the whole of what the Bavli shows of him. The name is the Eretz-Yisrael tradition's usual form of Yehuda, and it marks the passage in hand as belonging to that tradition.

Of the Yerushalmi's late generations.
