The Sages of the Talmud

רבי יוסי בן זימרא Rabbi Yose ben Zimra

Amora of the Land of Israel · 1st generation (c. 220–250 CE) — named 10 times across 6 tractates of the Bavli.

Amora of the Land of Israel · 1st generation×10 named in the Bavli6 tractates

Rabbi Yose ben Zimra, of the first amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, was a father-in-law of Rebbi's son. Rabbi Yochanan carries much of his teaching, and what comes down that channel is the Talmud's great body of aggada on the tongue: that one who speaks slander is as though he denied the root of all, and that plagues come upon the slanderer.

He is named some ten times across six tractates, heaviest — exactly as that suggests — in Arachin, where those passages stand. The Bavli writes his name with both ben and bar.

Father-in-law of Rebbi's son.
