Rabbi Yose ben Kisma, of the second tannaitic generation, is remembered for two passages. In the first a man offers him a fortune to come and live in his town, and he answers that were he given all the silver and gold and precious stones in the world, he would dwell nowhere but in a place of Torah. In the second, on his sickbed, he warns Rabbi Chanina ben Teradyon against teaching publicly under the decree, and tells him what will come of it.

He is named six times — twice in Avodah Zarah, where those passages stand, twice in Shekalim, and once each in Sanhedrin and Yevamot.

'I dwell among my own people'.
