Rabbi Yose bar Chanina, of Caesarea, belongs to the second amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael and learned in the circle of Rabbi Yochanan, in whose company he is most often cited. He was a judge as well as a teacher, and his rulings are used throughout the Bavli's treatment of civil law and of prayer.

He is named some two hundred and sixty times across thirty-four tractates, most heavily in Berachot and Sanhedrin, and is quoted by other sages a handful of times. His teachings on the redemption of the land and on the manner of prayer are among those the later tradition repeats.

Of Caesarea.
