רבי יונתן בן יוסף Rabbi Yonatan ben Yosef

Tanna · 3rd generation (c. 110–135 CE) — named 8 times across 5 tractates of the Bavli.

Rabbi Yonatan ben Yosef, of the third tannaitic generation, is named eight times, half of them in Chullin and the rest one apiece in Berachot, Rosh Hashana, Sotah and Yoma. He is cited in the company of the tannaim of Usha — Rabbi Meir, Rabbi Yehuda, Rabbi Natan — and of Ben Azzai and Rabbi Akiva before them.

The roster marks the entry for review, because the Bavli's forms do not always separate him from the other tannaim named Yonatan. That is the whole of what can be said with confidence.

Rarely cited.
