רבי יונתן Rabbi Yonatan
Tanna · 3rd generation (c. 110–135 CE) — named 215 times across 35 tractates of the Bavli.
Rabbi Yonatan, of the third tannaitic generation, belonged to the school of Rabbi Yishmael and is the constant companion of Rabbi Yoshiya: the two appear together through the halakhic midrash, disputing how a verse is to be read when its clauses might be joined or kept apart.
He is quoted by other sages some hundred times, the great part of it by Rabbi Shmuel bar Nachmani, whose formula Rabbi Shmuel bar Nachmani said in the name of Rabbi Yonatan carries much of the Bavli's aggadah. He is named some two hundred and fifteen times, heaviest in Sanhedrin.
The constant companion of Rabbi Yoshiya in the school of Rabbi Yishmael.
