רבי יוחנן בן נורי Rabbi Yochanan ben Nuri
Tanna · 2nd generation (c. 80–110 CE) — named 119 times across 27 tractates of the Bavli.
Rabbi Yochanan ben Nuri, of the second tannaitic generation, taught at Beit Shearim and was a colleague of Rabbi Akiva and of Rabbi Elazar ben Azaryah at Yavneh. He was poor, and the Talmud records his rulings across the whole range of the Mishnah's subjects.
He is named some hundred and twenty times, weighted toward Eruvin, Shabbat and Pesachim, and his positions are most often cited in dispute with Rabbi Akiva. Beyond his generation, his place and the company he kept, the reference tradition holds little about his life that can be stated firmly.
Of Beit Shearim; 'a basket full of books'.
