רבי יוחנן בן ברוקה Rabbi Yochanan ben Beroka

Tanna · 2nd generation (c. 80–110 CE) — named 69 times across 13 tractates of the Bavli.

Tanna · 2nd generation×69 named in the Bavli13 tractates1 as a patronymic

Rabbi Yochanan ben Beroka, of the second tannaitic generation, taught at Yavneh, and his son Rabbi Yishmael is himself a tanna, always cited with his father's name.

His rulings are concentrated in the law of inheritance and of documents — over half of his mentions fall in Bava Batra and Ketubot — and his position that a man's declaration about which of his heirs shall inherit is effective where the heir is one of those entitled is among the foundational disputes of that area of law. He is named some seventy times.

Of Yavneh.
