The Sages of the Talmud

רבי יהודה נשיאה Rabbi Yehuda Nesiah

Amora of the Land of Israel · 1st generation (c. 220–250 CE) — named 32 times across 19 tractates of the Bavli.

Amora of the Land of Israel · 1st generation×32 named in the Bavli19 tractates

Rabbi Yehuda Nesiah, of the first amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, was a grandson of Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi and nasi in his turn — a different man both from Rebbi himself and from the Tanna Rabbi Yehuda bar Ilai, and the roster keeps all three apart.

He is named some thirty times across nineteen tractates, spread very thinly, and stands most often beside Rabbi Yochanan and Reish Lakish, the sages of his court and generation. He appears less as a disputant than as the authority whose court acts.

Grandson of Rebbi and nasi in his turn — a different man from the Tanna רבי יהודה and from Rebbi himself.
