The Sages of the Talmud

רבי יהודה בן לקיש Rabbi Yehuda ben Lakish

Tanna · 3rd generation (c. 110–135 CE) — named 5 times across 3 tractates of the Bavli.

Tanna · 3rd generation×5 named in the Bavli3 tractates

Rabbi Yehuda ben Lakish, of the third tannaitic generation, was a colleague of Rabbi Meir and belongs to the sages of Usha. He is named five times — three in Yoma, and once each in Chagigah and Shabbat.

His name stands close to that of Reish Lakish, Rabbi Shimon ben Lakish, who is a different man of a later era and has his own entry here. Beyond his generation and those citations, the reference tradition holds little about him that can be stated firmly.

A colleague of Rabbi Meir.
