Rabbi Yehoshua ben Korcha, of the third tannaitic generation at Usha, is cited some eighty times, with a quarter of his mentions in Sanhedrin — his rulings on testimony, on judgment and on the examination of witnesses are among the most used in that tractate.

He is the one who sent word to Rabbi Elazar berabbi Shimon, when Rabbi Elazar took service with the Roman authorities, calling him vinegar, son of wine — a rebuke the Talmud records without softening. Asked how he had reached old age, he answered that he had never looked at the face of a wicked man.

Of the Usha generation.
