רבי צדוק Rabbi Tzadok
Tanna · 1st generation (c. 10–80 CE) — named 27 times across 14 tractates of the Bavli.
Rabbi Tzadok, of the first tannaitic generation, lived through the destruction of the Temple. The tradition tells that he sat forty years in fasting that Jerusalem should not be destroyed, and grew so thin that food could be seen through him; and that when Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai came before Vespasian he asked, among his three requests, for physicians to heal Rabbi Tzadok.
He is named some twenty-seven times across fourteen tractates, three of those inside another sage's patronymic, heaviest in Kiddushin, Shabbat and Yoma, and he stands beside Rabban Gamliel of Yavneh more often than beside anyone else.
Fasted forty years that Jerusalem be spared.
