Amora of the Land of Israel · 3rd generation×31 named in the Bavli15 tractates

Rabbi Simai, of the third amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael. He is named some thirty times across fifteen tractates, spread thinly, with Kiddushin, Megillah and Sanhedrin the heaviest.

He is quoted by Rabbi Chiya bar Abba and appears beside the tannaitic material more often than beside his own contemporaries — the mark of a sage whose citations are largely expositions of verses rather than rulings in dispute.

Of Eretz Yisrael.
