The Sages of the Talmud

רבי שמעון הפקולי Rabbi Shimon HaPakuli

Tanna · 2nd generation (c. 80–110 CE) — named 3 times across 2 tractates of the Bavli.

Tanna · 2nd generation×3 named in the Bavli2 tractates

Rabbi Shimon HaPakuli, of the second tannaitic generation, is remembered for a single act: at Yavneh, before Rabban Gamliel, he arranged the eighteen blessings of the Amidah in their order — the order that has stood in the prayer of Israel ever since.

He is named three times in this corpus, twice in Megillah, where that account is given, and once in Berachot. Beyond it the tradition preserves nothing further of his teaching.

Ordered the eighteen blessings at Yavneh.
