רבי שמעון בן יהוצדק Rabbi Shimon ben Yehotzadak
Amora of the Land of Israel · 1st generation (c. 220–250 CE) — named 25 times across 16 tractates of the Bavli.
Rabbi Shimon ben Yehotzadak, of the first amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, was a teacher of Rabbi Yochanan, and it is through Rabbi Yochanan that the Bavli almost always meets him: the formula Rabbi Yochanan said in the name of Rabbi Shimon ben Yehotzadak introduces some of the weightiest rulings in the Talmud, among them the decision, taken by a vote of the sages in an upper room, on which three transgressions a man must give his life rather than commit.
He is named some twenty-five times across sixteen tractates, spread very thinly, and Rabbi Yochanan is by far the name he stands beside most.
Rabbi Yochanan quotes him constantly.
