רבי פדת Rabbi Pedat
Amora of the Land of Israel · 1st generation (c. 220–250 CE) — named 23 times across 15 tractates of the Bavli.
Rabbi Pedat, of the first amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, is known to the tradition chiefly as the father of Rabbi Elazar ben Pedat, one of the greatest of the amoraim of the land — whose name the Bavli's unqualified רבי אלעזר is taken to mean.
He is named a little over twenty times in his own right, across fifteen tractates, heaviest in Avodah Zarah, Chagigah and Nazir. Four of those citations stand beside Rabbi Yochanan's rulings. Beyond that the reference works say little of him, and this bio does not add to it.
