The Sages of the Talmud

רבי נחמיה Rabbi Nechemya

Tanna · 3rd generation (c. 110–135 CE) — named 184 times across 28 tractates of the Bavli.

Tanna · 3rd generation×184 named in the Bavli28 tractates

Rabbi Nechemya, of the third tannaitic generation, was among the students Rabbi Akiva raised in his last years, alongside Rabbi Meir, Rabbi Yehuda, Rabbi Yose and Rabbi Shimon. The tradition that assigns the anonymous teachings of the tannaitic collections to particular sages gives the unattributed Tosefta to him, as it gives the unattributed Mishnah to Rabbi Meir.

He is named some hundred and eighty times across twenty-eight tractates, heaviest in Shabbat, Zevachim and Sanhedrin, and he is regularly cited against Rabbi Yehuda and Rabbi Shimon in the disputes of the Usha generation.
