רבי לוי Rabbi Levi
Amora of the Land of Israel · 3rd generation (c. 290–320 CE) — named 74 times across 28 tractates of the Bavli.
Rabbi Levi, of the third amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, is one of the aggadists of Tiberias, and his expositions of verses are cited throughout the Bavli and stand at the heart of the Eretz-Yisrael midrashic collections.
He is named some seventy-five times across twenty-eight tractates, heaviest in Berachot, Bava Batra and Megillah, and appears most often beside Reish Lakish and Rabbi Chama bar Chanina. His work is with the narrative portions of Scripture rather than with the law, and the Talmud draws on him where it turns from ruling to exposition.
An aggadist of Eretz Yisrael.
