Rabbi Eliezer son of Rabbi Yose HaGelili, of the third tannaitic generation, is the tanna to whom the tradition attributes the thirty-two rules by which aggada is expounded — the counterpart, for the narrative and homiletic parts of Scripture, of the thirteen rules by which the law is derived.

He is named some eleven times across five tractates, heaviest in Sanhedrin and Sotah, which is where aggadic exposition gathers. The Bavli writes his name in two forms, both of them naming his father.
