The Sages of the Talmud

רבי אלעזר בן פרטא Rabbi Elazar ben Parta

Tanna · 2nd generation (c. 80–110 CE) — named 13 times across 9 tractates of the Bavli.

Tanna · 2nd generation×13 named in the Bavli9 tractates

Rabbi Elazar ben Parta, of the second tannaitic generation, was seized by the Romans during the persecution together with Rabbi Chanina ben Teradyon. The Talmud sets their two conversations side by side: Rabbi Elazar was charged with five things and delivered, Rabbi Chanina with one and not delivered. The Bavli writes his name in both spellings, Elazar and Eliezer.

He is named some thirteen times across nine tractates, heaviest — fittingly — in Avodah Zarah, where that account stands.

Tried by the Romans and delivered.
