רבי חוצפית Rabbi Chutzpit the Interpreter

Tanna · 2nd generation (c. 80–110 CE) — named 1 time across 1 tractate of the Bavli.

Tanna · 2nd generation×1 named in the Bavli1 tractate

Rabbi Chutzpit the Interpreter, of the second tannaitic generation, stood before Rabban Gamliel at Yavneh and gave out to the assembly what the head of the academy taught — the office of the meturgeman, which in that generation was one of real standing.

He is counted among the Ten Martyrs whom the tradition mourns, and the sight of his death is what the aggada names as the thing that broke Elisha ben Avuya. His name is written once in this corpus, in Chullin.

The meturgeman of Rabban Gamliel; one of the Ten Martyrs.
